PS Underground, Palm Springs, CA, May 20, 2023

International cabaret singer Sharon McNight performed her outrageous cabaret show Songs to Offend Almost Everyone at the PS Underground an 11-year-old dinner/cabaret event space located in its own facility in South Palm Springs.

Opening with an Eddie Cantor tune, “The Dumber They Come, the Better I like ‘Em” (Harry DeCosta/Eddie Cantor/Fred E. Ahlert), McNight began to express her comedic talents and display her strong pipes. She slaughtered the audience with a series of nasty songs that included “Poisoning Pigeons in the Park” (Tom Lehrer), “Would Jesus Wear a Robe” (Chet Atkins), “Masochism Tango” (Lehrer), “Political Science” (Randy Newman), and “Everybody’s Girl” (Kander & Ebb from Steel Pier). Other gems included “Your Son Isn’t Going Thru a Stage” and “Why Me God?”

Wayne Abravenel followed McNight closely with his excellent accompaniment on piano, and he and McNight gave us all a fun time and a first-rate show. The show’s ending included the risqué “Merrilou” (Durwood Douche) and “Blow Me.” “I Never do Anything Twice” (Stephen Sondheim) was the closing number. The four-course dinner prepared by the passionate chef David Horgen was magnificent!
